Boyhood

“When I was a little boy, we had a shelf full of small tractors and toy cars. I had no interest in playing with them at all. I didn't know how to drive them around or make engine noises all over the room like my older brother. My childhood was filled with stereotypes about how boys should behave, how they should express their emotions, or what toys they were allowed to play with. In my imagination, I transformed that shelf of tractors into a complex machine for preparing tea.”

As an adult designer, I return to my childhood and borrow the idea of my younger self. I deliberately use these enforced archetypes of boyhood to highlight the issue of gender stereotypes. Within the theme of TOTALITY, I consider these stereotypes as a form of oppression that affects us all.
