Cabinet of Curiosities

This bachelor's thesis addresses the negative impacts of gender stereotypes that consciously or subconsciously influence our daily actions. Through the lens of contemporary feminist theory, I contemplate the issue of gender and its role within the design process. I employ drag as a key tool for understanding the complexity and diversity of gender identity. This artistic genre works with the theme of gender to subvert binary, predetermined norms.

I analyze drag and its aesthetics, establishing its core principles: transformation, hyperbolization, criticism, and caricature. I also explore the concepts of 'the reveal' and theatricality, which are integral parts of a drag performance. I apply these concepts to the design of various objects. The final output consists of several artifacts presented as an interactive installation. This installation aims to provoke questions regarding the relationship between designed objects and their influence on our identity. The goal is to stimulate critical thinking and contribute to a better understanding and acceptance of the diversity of gender identities.
