Start upBADW 2022/FragilityEN/SK
The situation surrounding the term 'start-up' is currently quite confusing. In many projects, invention is confused with mere attraction, and societal contribution is minimized in favor of economic profit. For a designer, the challenge lies in redefining its essence—not only by seeking new approaches and innovative solutions but also within the context of current discussions on the designer's role in society and the responsible approach to the solutions they bring.
Students of the Experimental Design Studio at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, under the guidance of Sylvia Jokelová and Marián Laššák, are tasked with reflecting on their future within the STARTUP project. The project enables the transformation of a studio theme into a real-world venture with the potential to become a high-quality start-up. Its timeline, smoothly distributed across the entire duration of study, provides sufficient space for serious research and refined outputs.
It allows for the systematic building of one's own design program and brand, as well as collaboration with other experts who enter the process of creating a product, product line, or service. At BADW 2021, students present the initial results of their projects at various stages of development, indicating the potential future directions of their individual areas of interest.
