flock.
For a long time, my work has focused on the theme of slowing down in today’s frantic world. The flock. project works with sound, utilizing the contrast between rigid forms and fluidity combined with the delicate sounds of nature.
Inspired by ancient acoustic vessels, flock. employs a physical principle where water, flowing through specially designed channels, creates the sound of birds chirping. This sound is not electronically generated; it is the direct result of the physical movement of water and air.
The interplay of moving objects is designed to function optimally in a quiet room—much like in nature, where silence allows for the perception of calming birdsong. A brief moment of silence is required to activate the sound, contributing to the project’s meditative quality. Beyond the sounds of nature, flock. also evokes a reflection on the fragile future of biodiversity.
