Living Room Memory

In my work, I explore the themes of memory and forgetting through textiles, specifically hand embroidery. For me, textile is more than just a material—it is a bearer of memories, touches, relationships, and emotions. I perceive it as a medium capable of preserving that which slowly fades from our minds. Embroidery serves as a silent record of attention, time, and personal narrative.

I collected old embroideries and tablecloths from my family and loved ones, subsequently transforming them through machine embroidery or by unravelling them. New layers of meaning emerged—sometimes I let the memory speak; other times, I consciously dismantled it, visually reflecting the process of forgetting.

However, fabric has its own memory—even after a thread is removed, a shape remains, a memory that is no longer whole, yet we still feel that something was once there. The installation evokes a living room—an environment tied to family memories. The textiles levitate, gently suggesting the volume of furniture and creating the atmosphere of a place that may no longer exist but persists in memory. The goal of my work is to highlight the significance of seemingly ordinary things as vessels of memory and identity. It is a personal statement about the need not to forget—ourselves, our loved ones, and the moments that shaped us.
