Juraj OlejárMaterial Engineering & DIY BricolageEN/SK
The work of Juraj Olejár represents a fascinating fusion of precise material engineering and an unbridled DIY aesthetic. The author is characterized by in-depth research, during which he constructs unique machines and tools tailored to his specific needs. His approach is rooted in the principles of bricolage—utilizing found electronic components and vintage devices, transforming them into functional technological units. With advanced knowledge of Arduino and machine mechanics, he is able to uncover new layers and possibilities in material processing.
Juraj actively bridges the gap between design and science, as demonstrated by his collaborations in seeking applications for aluminum foam or polymers and electrospinning technology at the Polymer Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV). He received a prestigious award at the National Design Award (NCD) for his bachelor's thesis. He further develops his professional expertise as a designer at the Crafting plastics! studio, where he contributes to the creation of international-scale installations and product development. His multidisciplinary reach is complemented by sound installations, painting, and drawing.
