Parallel worldsExhibition for the 5th anniversary of the studioEN/SK

Experimental design combines the freedom of artistic expression with a nearly engineering-driven effort by creators to find solutions (as well as warnings) for overlooked aspects of life. On the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the Experimental Design Studio at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (AFAD) in Bratislava, its students and alumni present a selection of projects representing a diverse and intensely personal approach to design practice. From searching for alternatives to existing unsuitable solutions, through creating new answers for ignored problems, to projects deepening community relations, the exhibition mirrors the principles of a pedagogical process centered on individual approach, independence, respect for freedom of opinion, engagement, and a critical examination of reality, as well as the ability to develop collaboration within and beyond the community.

In this environment of respect and interest in personal motivations, 'Parallel Worlds' develop concurrently into cohesive artistic programs, enriched by the experience of drawing closer to one another during and after their studies. They are joined by a curator—a peer studying at the Department of Theory and History of Art at AFAD—to collectively open the studio’s first five years of existence through their own lens, individual approach, and generational statement.
